Siemens starts transfer of F-class know-how

27 September 2016

Six months after signing an energy agreement with the Mapna Group in Iran Siemens has shipped the first F-class gas turbine for the Bandar Abbas power project. This is the first stage of a bilateral contract covering the transfer of know-how for F-class gas turbine technology from Siemens to Mapna.
As part of the Bandar Abbas power plant, this turbine will help in meeting the country’s continuously rising demand for electricity.
Siemens agreement with Mapna, to collaborate on the transfer of know-how for the F-class gas turbine technology to modernise the Iranian power supply system, was concluded in 2016. Mapna is Iran's largest power plant EPC contractor. The two companies also signed a contract that covers two SGen5-2000H generators and the associated power plant instrumentation and controls  as well as the two SGT5-4000F gas turbines.
The Bandar Abbas power plant is being built in the port city of the same name in the southern province of Hormozgan, near the Persian Gulf coast. The plant will have a capacity of 600 MWe. MAPNA plans to expand the facility into a combined-cycle power plant at a later time.
The Iranian Energy ministry is planning to build further gas-fired power plants in various locations across the country to help meet an electricity demand that is growing by approximately 5% each year. Iran wants to increase its total capacity from 74 GW today to a total of 100 GW over the coming five years. A large portion of the new power plants being built will be fired with natural gas. The agreement between Siemens and the Iranian MAPNA Group includes a licence for manufacturing F-class gas turbines in Iran. A total of more than 20 gas turbines as well as the associated generators are scheduled to be delivered over the next four to five years.
