The Power Generation arm of Siemens is to lead a consortium that will develop a 970 MW combined cycle gas turbine plant on a turn-key basis for Asia Gulf Power Holding Company, led by Japanese firm Marubeni. The consortium, which includes Fisia Italimpianti and Babcock Borsig Services, will develop the Taweelah B Extension using three SGT5-4000F gas turbines (previously called V94.3A), one steam turbine, four generators and ancillary systems. Siemens’s will receive around €330 million for its role in the development.
The €650 million project also includes a seawater desalination plant and modernisation of the Taweelah B power plant, the responsibility of Fisia Italimpianti and Babcock Borsig respectively.
The new plant, approximately 80 km north of Abu Dhabi, is scheduled to come on line in 2008
The news follows the recent official opening of the 1,000 MW Az Zour gas turbine plant by Germany’s Chancellor Schroeder and the signing of another contract to develop a plant in Yemen.
