Siemens to supply power island for 940MW gas plant

Siemens has been chosen by Clean Energy Future as the turnkey supplier for Lordstown Energy Centre - a new 940 MW natural gas-fired combined cycle power plant to be built in Lordstown, Ohio, USA. Siemens will deliver a turnkey power unit for the facility, which will feature H-class technology that has been designed for fast, flexible operation to support renewable integration. The scope of supply includes two gas turbines, one steam turbine and three generators. The plant is sheduled for commercial operation in summer 2018. In addition, Siemens has signed a long-term service agreement to include advanced remote monitoring and diagnostics.
Siemens Financial Services co-funded the development loan and will provide a pivotal 27 % equity investment alongside Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets to help realise the project. The total order volume for the project including service is more than $800 million.
Siemens will deliver the turnkey solution for the project including two SGT6-8000H gas turbines, one SST6-5000 steam turbine, two air-cooled SGen6-1200A generators, one hydrogen-cooled SGen6-2000H steam generator, and two NEM heat recovery steam generators as well as the electrical equipment and the instrumentation control system SPPA-T3000. The gas turbines and steam turbine will be manufactured at Siemens' Charlotte Energy Hub, which is the main production facility for Siemens' 60 Hz power generation. The plant design includes Siemens Flex-Plant combined cycle features, including fast gas turbine start which is said to reduce start up emissions up to 95% and Siemens Clean-Ramp technology to maintain low emissions while load following.
- Siemens has sold a total of 78 H-class gas turbines worldwide to date including 39 in the 60 Hz market including 17 in the US. The machines reach efficiency rates over 60% in combined cycle power plants with availability over 96%. Recently Siemens has set a world record with its H-class turbine technology with a net efficiency level of about 61.5 percent in the Lausward combined cycle power plant in Düsseldorf, Germany.
