Siemens will supply the major turbine island equipment including an SST6-6000 steam turbine generator, an SPPA-T3000 plant control system and an advanced air quality control system. The Siemens portion of the contract is worth more than $405 million.
Aker Kvaerner Songer will provide construction services and materials for the turbine island and boiler island in a contract worth approximately $654 million. The boiler will be supplied by Foster Wheeler. The once-through steam generator will use Siemens BENSON vertical tube technology in a contract worth approximately $200 million.
Site construction is scheduled to begin February 2007. Operation is slated for early 2011. The Longview project will use bituminus coal from Western Pennsylvania and from the adjacent MEPCO coal mine in West Virginia.
Randy Zwirn, president and chief executive of Siemens Power Generation said: “The Longview project demonstrates that coal-based generation utilising highly efficient energy conversion technology and advanced emission controls can be compatible with the environment.”
