German power engineering group Siemens has secured orders for the turnkey construction of two power plants in Qatar and Duba and a transmission project in Egypti.
The Qatar project is being developed by a consortium comprising Qatar Electricity & Water Co, International Power, and Chubu Electric Power. Siemens will partner with Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co to build the Ras Laffan B plant that will see the group supply three gas turbines, two steam turbines, and the associated electrical, and instrumentation and control equipment.
The plant will then have an installed capacity of around 1 GW together with a seawater desalination plant supplied by Doosan which will produce some 27,500 cubic meters of drinking water daily. Commercial operation is scheduled for May 2008.
The Dubai project is being developed on behalf of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and Siemens is to supply three gas turbines, including the instrumentation and control equipment.
The plant, which will have an installed capacity of 400 MW, is scheduled for commercial operation in early 2007.
Siemens has also won a contract to supply a turnkey gas-insulated 245 kV high-voltage substation to connect southern Egypt’s El Kureimat plant to the national grid.
The order was placed by the Giza-based Upper Egypt Electricity Production Company (UEEPC) and the new substation will be located 100 km south of Cairo, close Beni Suef on the east bank of the Nile.
