Sites for FutureGen named

18 September 2006

Two sites each in both Texas and Illinois have been named by the FutureGen Alliance following an extensive technical review. The sites are Mattoon and Tuscola in Illinois and Heart of Brazos near Jewett, and Odessa in Texas.

The selection criteria include factors such as suitable geology for carbon sequestration and the ability to access hydrogen and power markets.

A final site is due to be selected in the second half of 2007 while power engineering will proceed in parallel. The plant expected to be on-line in 2012.
