Arlington Infrastructure has appointed Smith Brothers as its preferred EPC provider for a 1 GW portfolio of energy storage and gas peaker plants in the UK.

The portfolio includes plants ranging from 5 MW in size to 50 MW. Smith Brothers, a UK-based electrical engineering firm, says it has been working collaboratively with Arlington on project development for the last 12 months, and will lead the engineering, procurement and construction elements of the projects.

Arlington recently announced that it had secured a $200 million finding line for the projects. “There is no doubt that storage, flexible gas assets and renewables are playing an ever-increasing role within the energy landscape,” said David Ogden, commercial director at Smith Brothers. “The Smith Brothers team has worked closely with Arlington to move the portfolio forward over the past year, and we are delighted that our technical expertise enables us to support them during this exciting new phase of growth.”

With work already in progress, the sites will be developed over the next three years, with the first aiming for completion by the end of quarter three of 2019.
