The UK government has announced that 18 solar projects are to share a £4 million grant to develop solar rooftops schemes on public buildings. The projects are in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and include schools, galleries, and sports centres.
The projects were awarded following a bidding process which started in November last year. originally they were competing for £3 million but the quality of the schemes encouraged the government to put forward a further £1 million.
This grant follows support given earlier in the year to develop 400 residential solar rooftops. Together they will form the precursor to a much larger deployment for which the government has set aside £20 million.
