Solar thermal hybrid planned for States

The proposed Victorville 2 Hybrid Power Project will comprise two 154 MW natural gas-fired turbines, two heat recovery steam generators, and one 268 MW steam turbine. The project also includes 250 acres of parabolic solar-thermal collectors with associated heat transfer equipment which will contribute up to 50 MW of the steam turbine's output. With plant auxiliary loads of about 13 MW, net output from the $450 million plant would be 563 MW.

If approved by the Energy Commission, construction of the plant - located just north of the Southern California Logistics Airport, about 1km west of the Mojave River - is due to begin in summer 2008 with commercial operations due to commence by the summer of 2010.

The application marks the beginning of the Energy Commission's year-long licensing review process.
