Siemens has won contracts worth €230 million for the development of two new peaking power plans in South Africa, the first to be built in the country for 15 years.
Siemens will supply seven SGT5-2000E (formerly known as V94.2) gas turbines for South African utility Eskom that will be used in two liquid fuel-fired power plants, due for commissioning as early as April 2007. Four of the 150 MW units are to be located in the Atlantis industrial park, 20 km north of Cape Town, while another three are to be installed at Mossel Bay, some 400 km east of Cape Town.
