South Africa to launch renewable energy trading

20 April 2005

The first renewable energy trading market in South Africa is to launch that will see bagasse-fired stations selling their output for sale at premium prices.

Local company Amatola Green Power is leading the initiative with funding from the Shell Foundation and South African chemical giant Sasol is already reportedly a customer. The government has set a target of 120 GWh of electricity from renewable sources by the year’s end.
