Pakri peninsula, 60 km west of Tallinn, once a Soviet era military base, is the site of Estonia’s first wind farm. A total of eight turbines are planned for the site, which has an estimated annual production of 56 GWh and which is being developed at a cost of euro 24 million. Pakri will meet about 1% of Estonia's net electricity consumption but under the Kyoto Protocol's Joint Implementation Scheme, 500,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions credits will be sold to Finland. Tuulepargid, a subsidiary of Danish-based Global Green Energy, is developing the wind farm.
