Spanish consider changing wind tariffs

2 December 2005

The government is thought to want to change the current arrangements that allow wind companies to sell output at a fixed rate of €65/MWh or at the spot market price plus a premium. With spot prices soaring, the government is considering requiring wind generators to sell into the regulated market at the fixed price only from 2006.

Wind players consider such a move to be retrogressive given the move could cut €450 million from revenues, but the measures would improve government deficits.
