SSE buys into domestic wind and solar

Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has invested £3.1 million ($5.6 million) to increase its stakes in Renewable Devices Swift Turbines and Solar Century Holdings. The Scottish supply company has invested £1.125 million ($2 million) to increase its stake in Edinburgh-based Swift Turbines to 10% of the share capital, with options over a further 20p%. A further £2.0 million ($3.6 million) has been invested to increase its stake in London-based Solar Century to 13.3% of the share capital.

Swift Turbines has developed what is believed to be the world’s first feasible rooftop-mountable wind energy system and Solar Century is the UK’s largest independent solar PV company.

SSE is working with the companies to market their products.
