Statkraft gains new partner in UK wind farms

7 August 2014

Statkraft has sold a 49 per cent stake in its UK onshore wind power portfolio to help finance new renewable energy projects.

The Norwegian firm has sealed a deal with Gingko Tree Investment Ltd. to sell the stake in three wind farms with a total combined capacity of 142 MW. It will continue to manage and operate the wind farms.

The three operational wind farms are the 23 MW Alltwalis facility in Carmarthen, Wales, the 52.5 MW Baillie wind farm in northern Scotland, and the 66.7 MW Berry Burn wind farm, also in northern Scotland. The three wind farms will be structured under a new holding company, Wind UK Invest Ltd, owned 51 per cent by Statkraft and 49 per cent by its new financial partner.

"We have firm growth ambitions in both onshore and offshore wind power," said Statkraft Executive Vice President Jon Brandsar. "This agreement enables further growth through project development while at the same time maintaining our industrial role."
