Suez has signed its first energy co-operation agreement with a utility in China, paving the way for it to actively participate in the country’s fast-growing electricity sector.
The agreement, signed with Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Company (SMEPC), allows Suez to work with SMEPC in areas such as the development of renewable energy sources, electricity grid operation and energy efficiency.
Suez is already active in China’s environment sector and has been seeking opportunities in the energy sector, particularly in Clean Development Mechnaism projects, LNG and electricity equipment.
