Glow Energy of Thailand, a subsidiary of Suez Energy International, has won the contract to construct a 660 MW coal fired power plant at the Map Ta Phut industrial estate in Thailand. The new facility will contribute to the government’s aim to diversify the country’s fuel mix and will be one of the cleanest coal fired power plants in the world.
Construction of the plant will start in the middle of next year and is expected to be operational by the end of 2011. The installation represents a total investment of Euros 770 million.
Power from the plant will be sold to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Glow Energy’s shareholding will be 65 per cent while that of Hemaraj – Thailand’s leading industrial estates developer – will be 35 per cent.
The new plant will meet statutory emission limits of the most stringent international regulations such as the European Union and will be well within World Bank Guidelines and Thai regulations. The plant will have a fuel efficiency of over 40 per cent.
Glow Energy is part of the Glow Group, which has an installed capacity of 1708 MWe in Thailand. It generates and supplies electricity to EGAT under Thailand’s SPP (Small Power Producer) and IPP (Independent Power Producer) programmes, as well as electricity, steam, industrial water and services to large industrial customers principally located in the Map Ta Phut area and nearby.
Suez Energy International is Glow Energy’s major shareholder.
