Sumitomo Corp has won a contract to construct two geothermal units in Indonesia for PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE).
The Japanese firm has signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with PGE for units 5 and 6 at the Lahendong geothermal area.
The two 20 MW units will be built in Minahasa district in the central part of North Sulawesi province by Sumitomo and its local partner PT Rekayasa Industri. Sumitomo has already built three other 20 MW geothermal units at the same site, it said in a statement.
The steam turbines for the project will be supplied by Fuji Electric Co, while construction and installation of the units and steamfield above ground system will be the responsibility of Rakayasa. Unit 5 will take 22 months and Unit 6 will take 28 months to build, so construction should be completed by September 2016 and March 2017 respectively, says Sumitomo.
Funding for this project will be covered with a loan from the World Bank.
