Suzlon wins $ 1 billion wind power deal

3 February 2011

Major wind energy player Suzlon Energy reports the winning of a USD 1.28 billion order from Caparo Energy to develop 1000 MW of wind power projects in India.

The projects should produce 500 MW of energy from March 2012 with a further 500 MW added by the same month the following year.

The deal was signed with a Caparo Energy subsidiary Caparo Energy India which already develops wind power projects in India.

Mr Tulsi Tanti, founder chairman of the Suzlon group said, "This has been a strong year for wind in the Indian power market. With large players like Caparo entering the market, we are seeing independent wind power producers becoming a major force."

Caparo Energy is a UK Channel Islands registered firm and listed on London's junior Alternative Investment Market. Suzlon projects now amount to some 15000 MW of wind energy capacity in 25 countries worldwide.
