Sweden-Lithuania power link

15 March 2005

A plan to build an electricity cable between Sweden and Lithuania at a cost of around €400 million is under consideration. The project, referred to as SwindLit, is expected to be completed by 2009 and will also see a 300 MW wind farm in the Swedish part of the Baltic Sea connected to the national grids of the two countires.

While cost estimates have been prepared, sources for the project's finance have not so far been identified. A final agreement on further progress of the project is expected to be held in early April.
