Swiss energy market to open from 2007

13 May 2005

The Swiss energy commission has passed a law which will see the country's energy market opened in one step from as early as 2007.

The decision will depend on a national referendum. Three laws have been passed for the energy sector -the electricity law, the electricity supply law and the energy law which concern cross-border trade, security of supply and immediate market opening down to end users, and subsidies for renewables.
