Taiwan orders J-Series GTs

20 September 2013

The Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) has placed an order with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) for the construction of a combined cycle power plant equipped with MHI's J-series gas turbines.

Taipower is building the 2600 MW power plant at a site in Tunghsiao Township, 150 km southwest of Taipei, as part of the country's long-term power development plan. It will consist of three power islands, each featuring two M501J gas turbines.

MHI will be responsible for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC). Its M501J gas turbine is the firm's most advanced, high capacity, high efficiency machine and has achieved the world's highest turbine inlet temperature of 1600°C.

The three power plant islands are slated to go on-stream sequentially between September 2016 and June 2017. Energy from the site will help to meet growing electricity demand in Taiwan, which is soaring, along with economic growth.
