Takeover change prompts step down in Denmark

17 May 2005

Negotiations between DONG and Vattenfall regarding the future of Danish generation company Elsam are underway with the new owners apparently developing a means for DONG to buy out the Vattenfall stake. Although terms have not yet been reached it is known that Vattenfall will come away as the owner of at least one of Elsam's central power plants.

Elsam chief executive and president Peter Høstgaard-Jensen has decided to resign as of 30 June 2005 in response to the move, with which he strongly disagrees. Elsam recently elected a new chairman in Kresten Philipsen who’s signals regarding Elsam's future are apparently not compatible with Høstgaard-Jensen’s and previous decisions by the board.
