A consortium of IHI, CTCI and Sumitomo have been awarded the contract by Taiwan Power Company for engineering, procurement and construction of two power generation units including power block buildings and facilities at Talin Thermal Power Plant in Kaohsiung District in southern Taiwan. The new unit are to replace existing facilities at the plant. Commercial operation dates are scheduled for 2016 (unit 1) and 2017 (unit2).
The work is part of Taipower's Long-Term Power Development Programme. The replacement units will be two ultra supercritical coal fired boilers each of 800 MW.
IHI will be responsible for supplying boilers and for technical and commercial leadership of the consortium. Sumitomo will be responsible for civil and installation work of steam turbines, generators and other auxiliary equipment supplied by Toshiba. CTCI will be responsible for supplying the balance of plant and executing civil and installation work for boilers and the BOP.
Taipower's overall plan is to increase its total capacity by expanding and replacing its large capacity sub-critical thermal power plants with higher efficiency units that emit less CO2.
