Tenaska clears hurdle on Texas power plant

5 February 2015

Tenaska has been given the green light to build a $500 million natural gas-fired power plant in Texas, USA.

The 800 MW Texas Brownsville generating station has been issued with an emissions permit from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), enabling construction to start at the 270 acre site.

Construction is due to start in 2015 and the plant is expected to attract large industrial firms to the Brownsville region. Tenaska will own and operate the plant, selling part of the output to wholesale customers.

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) has an ownership interest in the plant that entitles it to 200 MW of the output.
