Tepco restarts a reactor

25 May 2003

The 1315MWe Kashiwazaki-Kariwa 6 reactor will reach full power in June. No dates have been set for restarting Tepco's other 16 reactors, and a significant shortfall in electricity looms. Tepco considers it necessary to have at least 10 units back on line soon, to meet an expected peak electricity demand of 64,500MW in the coming summer months.

Prior to resuming commercial operation, the unit will undergo a comprehensive load evaluation, which is normally the final step in a periodic inspection.
