Thailand to privatise distribution system

Following the go-ahead in the privatisation of state power company Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), the Thai government has confirmed its intention to privatise the country's power distribution system.

Privatisation of distribution is central to government plans to raise investment in Thailand's power sector although critics of the scheme argue that the move would create a monopoly.
