Transmission costs for wind: report

A new study by Germany’s Energy Agency has concluded that the national grid will require some €1.1 billion in investment to support the development of a 20% contribution from renewable energy.

Some 400 km of high-voltage lines would have to be reinforced by 2015, and 850 km of new lines built with the cost for power consumers expected to rise by €1.6 billion - €2.3 billion.
