UCTE, the association of European transmission system operators, today announced that a feasibility study is being launched to examine the feasibility of interconnecting Turkey with the synchronous UCTE network.
The study will be undertaken by a group of UCTE members led by Germany's RWE and Greece's HTSO. Other participants include E.On, Croatia's HEP and France's RTE. The results of the study are expected in 2007.
Turkey has only one connection with Western Europe through Bulgaria and with more connections planned, becoming synchronous with the UCTE grid, which includes the European Union, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Bulgaria, Romania and western Ukraine, is advantageous.
