Russia’s UES plans to develop more than 30 projects within the Kyoto Protocol mechanisms in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by a minimum of 20 million tonnes.
Two projects are already under way at a cost of euro 12 million, having been tendered to the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. The first project will see the installation of two 10 MW combined-cycle gas turbines at the Mednogorskaya CHP plant of Orenburgenergo. Under the second, the Amurskaya CHP plant owned by Khabarovskenergo will be converted from coal-fired to run on natural gas. The two projects will reduce emissions by a total of 465,000 tonnes annually.
