UK consumers see capacity content revealed

7 October 2005

New rules governing disclosure of fuel use and pollution have come into force in the UK.

The regulatory ruling requires electricity supply companies to provide a break down of the sources of their power together with figures for the level of carbon dioxide and nuclear waste produced per kWh.

The rules were passed in March 2005 when a new standard licence condition was inserted into electricity supply licences.

The purpose of the guidelines is to help suppliers with the presentation of the fuel mix information in order to maximise understanding and help consumers compare the content of the fuel supplied by different suppliers.
