UK continues offshore expansion

The UK arm of Germany’s E.ON has announced plans to build a 300 MW wind farm 8 km off the Yorkshire coast of the UK.

The proposed Humber Gateway Offshore Wind Farm would comprise up to 83 turbines and the planning process has started with a series of consultation meetings with representatives from the local fishing industry and local coastline communities.

E.ON is already developing the 1 GW London Array project in the Thames estuary in partnership with Shell WindEnergy and Dong Energy.

The news comes as the parent group reveals that two new E.ON companies are to be based in Düsseldorf, one in charge of trading and the other of renewables and environmental protection. Expanding renewables internationally will be one of the key tasks of the new unit. In total E.ON is planning to put some EUR 3 billion into enhancing renewable energy by 2010.
