Urban project wins $25 million loan

The Uganda Electricity Board has secured a $25 million loan from the African Development Fund for its Urban Power Rehabilitation Project, involving rehabilitation of networks in Kampala, Jinja and Tororo.

Completion is scheduled to take a year, and the project will include improvements to 260 km of 11 kV lines and the addition of a further 74 km. Low voltage lines will be improved, and 380 distribution substations installed, while a new 130 km, 33 kV line will be built in Apac and Masindi. The extensions will embrace around 9000 new customers.
