UTC sells Clipper Windpower

26 March 2012

United Technologies Corporation (UTC) is to sell Clipper Windpower as part of its strategy to fund new acquisitions.

The USA-based firm, which also owns Pratt & Whitney and fuel cell company UTC Power, bought Clipper in late 2010 for $112 million. It says it is re-evaluating its technology portfolio and will use the proceeds from the sale of Clipper and other units to help finance the purchase of aerospace and defence firm Goodrich.

California-based Clipper makes the 2.5 MW Liberty wind turbine which it has sold into the US and Latin American markets.

In 2011 UTC cancelled the Britannia wind turbine project that would have seen Clipper develop a 7.5 MW offshore turbine in the UK.
