Thanks to a large number of installations in the USA, Vestas has regained its position as the world's leading supplier of wind turbines in terms of capacity with 4850 MW installed in 2013 (13.6% market share), according to market research company GlobalData.

GE occupied the top position in 2012, but both GE and Gamesa (fifth in 2012) slipped out of the top five in 2013. Some 980.2 MW of GE turbines were installed in 2013, which is over 80% lower than their 2012 installed capacity.

Enercon was in second position with approx 10% of the market share in 2013, up from its fourth position in 2012. Germany, Canada and Turkey proved to be major markets for Enercon in 2013, with capacities installed of 1484.8 MW, 582.5 MW and 237.1 MW, respectively.

While Chinese OEMs were absent from the top five in 2012, Goldwind rose to third place in 2013, advancing from seventh in 2012. GlobalData states that this is due to the company's increasing installations in the Chinese domestic market.

Siemens slipped to fourth position in the rankings with an installed capacity of 2587 MW (7.3% market share), according to GlobalData figures. The company had a 10% share of the market in 2012, with installations of 4716.3 MW of wind capacity.

Suzlon was another new entrant in the top five, ranking fifth in 2013, up from sixth in 2012, although its market share remained at just over 6%. The company had large-scale installations in Canada, Germany and Poland, says GlobalData.
