Vestas order has potential for 610 MW supply chain

27 September 2013

Vestas says that it could supply Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc (RES) with up to 610 MW of wind turbines after finalising turbine supply agreements with the firm.

Vestas will supply an initial 60 MW of turbines for projects in the USA that will start construction this year before the expiry of the production tax credit (PTC), a subsidy granted to wind farm operators for the energy produced from wind.

The projects will employ Vestas' V100-2.0 MW wind turbines with delivery in 2014 and 2015. Vestas' president of sales and service for the USA and Canada called for the PTC to be extended beyond the end of 2013.

"This is a great example of how the 'start-of-construction' language in the current production tax credit for wind energy is generating increased spending and creating US manufacturing jobs," said Susan Reilly, president and CEO of RES Americas. "This purchase, which we expect to increase as these projects move forward, would not have occurred but for the decision Congress made to qualify any project that starts this year."
