Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry has issued licenses allowing domestic firms to build eight small hydro plants with a total capacity of 42 MW in central and northern Vietnam.
State-owned firms will build three plants with a combined capacity of 18.3 MW in Dak Lak, Son La and Bac Kan provinces, while joint stock firms will build the other five plants with a combined capacity of 23.7 MW in Lam Dong, Dak Lak and Lao Cai provinces.
The largest project is Nam Tha in Lao Cai province, which will consist of three small plants with a total capacity of 19 MW and cost VND330 billion ($23 million) to build.
