12 July 2005

Provisional approval has been granted by the Vietnamese government for a $323.8 million transmission and distribution project.

Vietnam is expected to borrow some $200 million from the World Bank with the remainder coming from commercial banks and development funds. The State Bank of Vietnam will negotiate with the World Bank.

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), the Ho Chi Minh City Electricity Co and Electricity Co No. 3 are to carry out the project.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Industry is to build a national electricity network centre to ensure the national grid is managed smoothly.
