Vattenfall has awarded a contract worth some €11 million to Finland’s Wärtsilä for a biomass-fuelled combined heat and power plant.

The turnkey contract will see a 17.5 MWth and 3.7 MWe development that will supply Motala on the shores of Lake Vättern in southern Sweden.

The plant is due to be fully operational in September 2006 and will burn wood waste from the local forestry industry.
