Independent power producer Nishat Power Ltd has awarded Wärtsilä a EUR134 million contract to construct a 200 MWe combined cycle power plant in Pakistan.
The power plant will be centered around 11 diesel generating sets and will further strengthen its position in Pakistan’s power plant equipment market, says Wärtsilä. The plant, near Lahore, will be operational by September 2009.
“This will further strengthen Wärtsilä's position as the market leader in the supply of private power plants in Pakistan,” said Christoph Vitzthum, group vp, Wärtsilä Power Plants. “A total of 1 GWe of Wärtsilä power plants are already in service.”
The plant will operate with a design efficiency of 45 per cent and will run on heavy fuel oil. It will consist of 11 Wärtsilä 18V46 diesel generating sets with exhaust recovery boilers supplying steam to a single steam turbine.
Wärtsilä will supply the plant equipment, then erect, test and commission the plant and provide local construction supervision. A contract to operate and maintain the power plant is also under negotiation.
Power from the plant will supply Pakistan’s national grid under a power purchase agreement signed between Nishat Power and Pakistan’s National Transmission and Despatch Company.
