Waste to power plant

The 23-year-old waste incineration plant in Bratislava, Slovakia, will be converted by Siemens into a waste-fired cogeneration district heating plant.

The new plant will be designed for 7500 annual operating hours and will burn 134 000 tonnes of waste per annum. Process steam will be used in a refinery and as district heat for greenhouses. Installing a turbine, an additional 5.4 MWe will be generated Siemens will supply a package-unit industrial turbine, Teleperm XP I&C, and all the electrical equipment. As part of the conversion, the three previous waste lines, of which one will continue in operation until the end of reconstruction, will be replaced with two new ones.

The amount of solid combustion residues will be reduced by around 50 per cent.
