The government is expected to approve plans to construct a 59 MW wind farm at Cefn Croes, central Wales. The r56 million project is being viewed as a test of government determination to make it easier for renewable energy projects, particularly wind farms, to gain planning permission.
The new scheme, which is backed by the local county council, has met with some strong opposition but the energy minister has rejected calls for a public enquiry. It was originally proposed by Enron Wind, which is now part of GE, and the Renewable Development Co.
The project will involve the installation of 39 wind turbines, each with a capacity of close to 1.5 MW. Around r18 million of the development cost is expected to be spent in Wales.
