Wood group to build Dorad CCGT

2 December 2010

Wood Group has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract valued at approximately $875 million from Dorad Energy to build an 800 MW natural gas fired CCGT plant in Israel. The Dorad plant is expected to be online within 36 months and when completed will represent approximately eight per cent of Israel’s total installed power generation capacity.

Wood Group has full turnkey responsibility for the plant, from design, procurement and construction through to commissioning and handover. The facility will utilise 12 natural gas-fired turbines connected to a heat-recovery steam generator that will provide steam for two steam turbines. This technology will offer significantly improved emissions performance compared to coal-fired technology.

“The landmark Dorad Power Plant will be one of the first major operational independent power producers following Israel’s deregulation of electricity markets,” stated Mark Papworth, CEO of Wood Group. “As the global economy recovers and an increase in power generation is required, we expect a robust market opportunity for additional gas-fired power generation capacity. We intend to continue to develop our EPC activities, supporting our clients’ new power plant requirements both in the Americas and the Eastern Hemisphere.”
