Yingli to supply Chile hybrid plants

17 July 2015

Yingli Solar has won a contract to supply solar photovoltaic (PV) panels to two hybrid PV-CSP power plants in Chile.

The two power plants will consist of 110 MW of CSP (concentrated solar power) with thermal storage, as well as Yingli multicrystalline solar panels. Yingli has not named the projects but they are thought to be those under development in northern Chile by Spanish firm Abengoa.

Yingli will be the plants' sole PV supplier, providing over 780 000 YGE72 cell solar panels - equivalent to 240 MW. The panels will be installed in two phases and will occupy nearly 40 469 hectares of land in total.

The first plant is due to start operating in mid-2016. The first phase of panel delivery has been completed and the second phase will start in August 2015.

"We are pleased to be the exclusive solar PV panel provider for the two largest hybrid solar power plants in Latin America," said Mr. Fernando Calisalvo, Managing Director of Yingli Green Energy Spain.

Both projects will be connected to the national utility grid and deliver an uninterrupted power supply to commercial, industrial, and residential customers throughout Chile, which is experiencing high energy demand growth and which is also trying to boost energy security by deploying renewable energy.
