FEED competition contracts awarded for UK’s East Coast Cluster

On behalf of its partners, bp, the operator of Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power) and the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP), has awarded contracts as part of its dual Front End Engineering Design (FEED) competition to two separate consortiums of engineering, carbon capture licensors, power providers and EPC contractors.

Prysmian secures two US wind farm projects

Prysmian Group has secured cabling contracts for two new offshore wind farm projects in the USA worth approximately $900 million. Both projects have been awarded by Vineyard Wind, a joint venture of Avangrid Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.

28% US coal fired plants to retire by 2035

Although coal-fired power plants have no mandatory retirement age, power plant owners and operators have reported to the Energy Information Administration that they plan to retire 28%, amounting to 59 GW, of the coal-fired capacity currently operating in the United States by 2035.

100 MW Uzbekistan wind power project agreed

ACWA Power, a prominent Saudi developer of power generation, has finalised project agreements for the 100MW Nukus wind project in the Republic of Uzbekistan. Valued at US$108 million, the Nukus project is located in the Karakalpakstan region, in the NW of the country. The project is Uzbekistan’s first publically tendered wind project. ACWA Power won the competitive bid after proposing a tariff of US 2.5695 cents/kwh.

Chimney of Europe’s largest coal-fired PP is demolished

The photograph shows the demolition on 9 December of the chimney of what was once the largest coal-fired power plant in Europe, the Longannet power station in Scotland. Operated by ScottishPower, now a subsidiary of Iberdrola, it ceased operations in 2016.

Mitsubishi ships 2.4 GW gas-fired CC plant to the UAE

On 16 December Mitsubishi Power, an arm of MHI, shipped three M701JAC gas turbines to the Fujairah F3 combined cycle power plant in the UAE from its Takasago Machinery Works in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. The 2.4 GW plant will be the largest natural gas fired GTCC facility in the UAE, playing a crucial role in the country's power generation sector, while also contributing to the GCC's power grid.

First replacement of SF6 in existing HV equipment

Decarbonisation roadmap for heavy industry in the UAE

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and GE Gas Power have announced a joint co-operation initiative to develop a decarbonisation roadmap that includes reducing carbon emissions from gas turbines used to power ADNOC’s downstream and industry operations, including those at the huge Ruwais Industrial Complex, in Abu Dhabi in the UAE.

Project Greensand to receive DKK 197 m funding
