Integrated solution key to success of world's largest oil-field N2 plant
16 November, 2001
Pemex is using a massive, 40 000 t/d, nitrogen plant - owned and operated by a BOC-led consortium - for pressure maintenance in its Cantarell field, 93 km offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. This facility cost $1 billion and has more than doubled the world's N2 output. Power and steam is being provided by a 520 MW plant, highly integrated with the process systems, mechanical drivers and utilities, including some of the world's largest air and N2 compressors. Brian Keenan, BOC, Guildford, UK

Hazira brings clean power to Gujarat
16 November, 2001
Hazira has proved to be one of the shortest lead-time combined cycle power projects in India. Both gas turbines have synchronised in a record time of 16 months from the notice to proceed. The advanced GT8C2 gas turbines are the first units of this type to be equipped with dual burners to fire gas as prime fuel and high speed diesel (HSD) as backup fuel. Hazira is also the first use of GT8C2 machines in combined cycle mode. Gilbert Roy and Paul Baerfuss, Alstom, Baden, Switzerland

Large-scale coal-over-coal reburn successful at Italy’s Vado Ligure
23 March, 2001
Controlling emissions in coal-fired plants by reburn using gas is a well established concept. Following a programme of modifications the Vado Ligure power plant in Italy is now showing that coal can be used as reburn fuel at large scale, with very positive results.
