Supercritical-pressure power plants: a progress report
01 December, 2009
Recent trends in steam parameters for supercritical power plants are reviewed, along with the evolution of steam turbine and boiler technology. The current phase of rising main reheat steam temperatures is expected to end early in the next decade, at around 620-630 °C, with new materials making it possible to achieve 28 MPa, 630/650 °C about the middle of the decade and thereafter USC conditions (35 MPa, 700/720 °C) with the promise of efficiencies over 50%.
