The overview, summarised below, has been produced by Agora Energiewende, which describes itself as a “think-&-do-tank”, and is a joint initiative of the Mercator Foundation and the European Climate Foundation.

The recovery from the 5 February 2015 steam turbine fire at the Martigues 5 and 6 combined cycle plants in the South of France, and restoration of the site to full health – 18 months later – was the subject of a very interesting presentation by Antoine Pfister and Andrés Sanchez Roa at the UK IMechE’s Steam Turbine and Generator User Group 2017 conference, Birmingham, UK, 22-23 March.

For six decades, use of molten salt nuclear fuel has been synonymous with the fuel also being the coolant, with reactor fuel emitting beta and gamma radiation at many kW per litre levels as it passes around a pumped chemical engineering based system outside the reactor core. Doosan Skoda Power projects in Denmark and Jordan

Doosan Škoda Power reports that its scope of supply for HOFOR’s new CHP plant at the Amagerværket site (BIO4) in Copenhagen will include the complete turbine hall, comprising DST-S10 steam turbine (rated output 150 MWe), generator, heat exchangers, oil system, feedwater tank, steam and heat pipework, power and signal cabling, steel structures, bridge crane, fire protection system and lighting. Doosan Škoda Power will also be responsible for assembly of the turbine hall equipment including commissioning and subsequent guarantee measurements.
