Atlas Copco adds 575 kVA model to the QAS range

Atlas Copco’s new QAS 600 genset is the largest model in the QAS range. Rated at 575 kVA at 60 Hz, the unit is powered by a Volvo TAD 1641 GE diesel engine and includes a 239 gallon (905l) fuel tank that allows continuous operation at full load for a complete shift. Its standard features are intended to maximise safety and minimise environmental impact while providing for easy transportation and onsite handling, making it suitable for rental, industrial, public utility and construction applications where continuous power is needed.

The QAS 600 is housed in zinc plated steel with a powder coat finish to provide optimum resistance against corrosion. The housing has also been designed to reduce noise. The unit operates at 77 dB(A) at 60 Hz, good enough for noise sensitive areas.

The unit’s casing features a dedicated compartment for the electrical system, making it safe to access when operating. Isolating the electrical system from the engine compartment also reduces vibration and temperature impact on the more sensitive electrical components. Furthermore, the compartment door is sealed to help prevent water and dust infiltration.

An industrial Type B-curve four-pole main circuit breaker safeguards the alternator against external short circuits by an instantaneous trip at three to five times the nominal current. In fact, all main circuit breakers in the QAS range are omnipolar — an essential feature for compatibility with different configurations and various applications on site.

Critical engine parameters such as oil temperature, oil pressure and coolant temperature are monitored by means of a fail-safe system. Should a sensor or transducer fail, the system automatically shuts down to avoid any damage to the engine.

Generator control, protection and monitoring are provided with the Qc1002 local or remote start digital control module as standard. All Qc controllers are equipped with external communication protocols prepared to support the Cosmos option for satellite monitoring.

Other standard features on the QAS 600 are there to make preventive maintenance and repairs faster, easier and safer. Large access doors allow easy access to all service points and generator components. External drain points are positioned to allow efficient draining of oil, coolant and fuel with minimal risk to the environment. A dual-stage fuel filter with integrated water separator and a heavy duty dual-stage air filtration system ensure longer service intervals and increased engine life and up time. An extra safety cartridge filter element allows air filter replacement during operation.

A high-performance radiator with high capacity cooling also is fitted to guarantee performance in high ambient temperatures up to 104F and 3280 feet of altitude.

Options on the QAS 600 include a Qc4002 controller that is available for multi-start paralleling operations. This controller is equipped with a power management system that enables the user to save fuel and to extend the life of the engine. In order to increase flexibility, a complete cam-lock panel is also an option, and provides access to the full power of the generator, a very unusual feature on generators in this size range.


The enclosure also features an integrated lifting structure that includes forklift slots, which facilitate safe and efficient handling, and an integrated bumper to protect against impact. In addition, the integrated lifting structure is positioned at the centre of gravity for correct balancing, and is designed to support at least four times the maximum weight without breakin

The sturdy spillage-free frame is a 110 % containment base for all the necessary liquids such as oil, coolant and fuel, offering maximum environmental protection.
