Delivery of Innovator scheduled

21 May 1999

Gas Power Systems of Illinois, USA, has announced the placement of its 1.2 MWe Innovator genset.

Texas Tech, in cooperation with the Gas Research Institute and South Plains Electric Cooperative, will operate the unit this summer to accommodate peak shaving applications in central Texas. The 1.2 MWe machine is designed to operate on natural gas or liquid fuel.

The key to the Innovator's operation is the Innovator Control System (IDC). Gas Power has developed the first ever real time open architecture embedded solid state controller within the power industry. Bill Munson, the head of GPS's engineering team said: "Our control system is operating on a real time 1 millisecond update, and we've actually had to slow down some of the channels in order to accommodate some mechanical devices."
